Officials green light wipes acquisition in U.S., Europe

Competition authorities in Spain, Germany and the U.S. have approved Suominen’s acquisition of Ahlstrom’s Home and Personal wipes fabrics business area. The transaction, which will make Suominen the world’s largest maker of spunlace fabrics for wipes, is expected to be completed by October 31, 2011. Approval by authorities in Brazil, where Ahlstrom operates a spunlace line in Louveira, should take place during the first quarter of 2012.
